It’s once again a very exciting day for all the Australia Cup fans out there (we know you love the cup, don’t pretend you don’t).
Oakleigh Cannons became the last team to qualify for the cup*, meaning we have our entrants sorted for the round of 32. *Not counting the A-League play-offs.
Representing NSW will be the A-League sides Sydney FC, Western Sydney Wanderers and Macarthur Bulls. NPL sides APIA Leichhardt, Rockdale Ilinden, Blacktown City and NWS Spirit and potentially Newscatle Jets if they beat Western United.
The draw is live tonight at 7pm AEST on 10 Play, the Australia Cup Facebook page and the Football Australia Youtube channel.
The draw principles for the cup are as follows:
– All teams balls will be in the one pot
– The home club will be the first drawn team unless the fixture is between an A-League side and a non A-League side, then the home club will be the non A-League side.
– Wellington will play in Australia regardless of where they are drawn
– Fully open draw once again, no guarantee of a member fed club to the semi finals.

There is a difference this year for the round of 16 onwards, where the quarter final and semi final draws will be conducted in immediate succession. So the tournament bracket will be known from the round of 16 onwards with clubs and fans able to tell who they could potentially be facing and where.
Whilst this provides some level of certainty for fans i.e. if they might want to travel where they could potentially be headed or if they can plan for a home fixture, it takes away the excitement of a live draw somewhat.
The finals venue will be decided by Football Australia once again, taking a range of factors into consideration.
Round of 32 games will be played between Tuesday 30 July and Sunday 11 August. We strongly urge supporters to get behind their sides and get out to a cup match. Nothing beats midweek football in the winter with the chance to host an A-League side or an interstate NPL side.
Our best hope is that the NSW sides can avoid each other in the draw to make for some exciting trips for the teams. Best of luck to all the sides competing, we can’t wait to watch the cup.
